My award-winning travel memoir Guns and Gods in My Genes documents a 15,000-mile search for my roots through 400 years of North American history, ending with the arrival of the Pilgrims on the Mayflower and 17th century New England. I was asked by a new and interesting “Best Books” website (Shepherd.com) to write about my book and others that influenced me and we decided on the theme of the “true founding of America.”
